May 26 - Mt Beauty Half Marathon

Report from the Mt Beauty Half Marathon 2003 Race Committee

With a total of 228 competitors, and perfect running conditions, the 2003 event was one to remember. It is good to see so many of the next generation of runners tackling the 3km event some even taking their parents with them.

There were a large number of excellent individual performances too many to mention them all, so here are just two that really caught my eye: One was the titanic struggle between Ian Franzke and Cameron Morton for first place in the big one they were going hammer and tongs from the halfway mark. The other was the quality of the veteran field in the same race fancy running 80 minutes for the half on a hilly course and coming third in the over 40's!

We have lovely certificates that we forgot to hand out on the finish line (the person with this job has left town!). If you would like to have yours mailed out please reply to this message.

Sincere apologies to those runners in the 10km event affected by mistaking the 5km sign for the turnaround especially to the first three who really had their race affected. We have analysed the problem and will ensure it does not happen again next year.

2005 - This will be the 25th anniversary of the event. We have already had one runner suggest a one-off full marathon for that year. What do you think? Would any of you wish to run that far?

Thanks for your support. See you next year on the second-last Saturday in May

Best wishes

Bob Flower and Helen L'Huillier, for the committee.

Most of the JWSAR Rollerski/Rollerblade summer series was put on hold because of the bush fires, however the series final is still set to go ahead in Jindabyne on June 7.

The track is a dual lane, high quality bitumen loop around 450m long which is excellent for roller skiing and blading. Everyone is welcome, the cost for the event is $4.00 which covers the use of facilities and insurance. The use of helmets and knee & elbow guards is highly recommended. Registration is between 9:00-9:15 at the athletics/ bike track at the Jindabyne Sport and Rec Camp on the Barry Way, Jindabyne. For more information please contact Tim Greville on

May 14 - Level 1 Coaching Course

A Level 1 Coaching Course will be held in the Marysville/Lake Mountain area on the weekend of June 21-22. While the final venue is yet to be confirmed, it will likely be one of the conference centres in Marysville.

The Level 1 Course is designed to give coaches at the club or school level an understanding of basic coaching methods integrated with some basic knowledge of general coaching principles. It combines theory presentations and discussions with practical sessions both on and off snow. The on-snow sessions will be held on another weekend in July, possibly at Falls Creek combined with a club competition. Further details of the course are available in the Coaching section on this site.

The cost of the course is $220, including registration with the Australian Sports Commission and various coaching manuals. Interested persons should contact Finn Marsland on 02 6214 7940, 0408 147940, or email

April 30 - A Return To Updates
It should be no surprise to readers to witness the annual delay in updating of this website after the end of the ski season in Europe. Updates in May will likely also be sporadic, but the regularity will pick up when the snow starts to fall.
