Welcome to the Kangaroo Hoppet
AUSTRALIA'S PREMIER XC SKI RACE AND PART OF THE WORLDLOPPET SERIES
Every year, on the fourth Saturday of August, hundreds of cross country skiers of all nationalities, ages and abilities race over the Australian Bogong High Plains for the Kangaroo Hoppet. This unique event, that runs over Falls Creek’s world class groomed trails, is a great opportunity for everyone from beginners to Olympians to strap on a set skis and celebrate cross country skiing in Australia.
The 42km Kangaroo Hoppet, a member of the prestigious Worldloppet series, is the signature race in the event. It attracts both elite skiers from Australia and overseas, and passionate cross country skiers who enjoy the sense of achievement of completing the challenging course of Australia’s premier cross country ski race.
For those who don’t feel up to the challenge of the longer distance, there’s the 21km Australian Birkebeiner and 7km Joey Hoppet that allows everyone to give racing go in a safe and fun environment.
Spectators can also enjoy the awesome atmosphere in the Falls Creek Nordic Bowl and cheer all the participants along at both the start and finish lines.
In the week leading up to the event, there are heaps of social and festive activities in Falls Creek and the nearby sub-alpine town of Mount Beauty, together with the opportunity to explore the rest of Falls Creek’s cross country ski terrain.
And in the evening after the Kangaroo Hoppet participants and friends have the opportunity to relive the highlights of the day at a social evening in Mount Beauty, which includes the presentation of age group and special awards.
Don’t miss out on being part of our amazing event …
