Walk it or Run it! Mount Bogong, the tallest mountain in Victoria is the ultimate challenge.

We recommend you have undertaken a similar grade hike of at least 20km distance with 1,300 metres elevation gain as training. This is so you know what to expect and how to manage your nutrition and hydration throughout the day.

Your Conquest of Mount Bogong

The Conquestathon is a total trek of 21km, but with 1,410 metres elevation gain in only 9km up Staircase Spur from the start to the summit of Victoria’s highest mountain (1,986m). Descending down Eskdale spur to Camp Creek Gap and onto the 4WD track for the final 8km back to the start/finish area at Mountain Creek Camp Ground.

In 2025 we will be celebrating the 45th staging of the Mt. Bogong Conquestathon.

Funds are being raised for the Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club Search and Rescue (BNSC SAR) This crew of amazing volunteers assist police to locate people that get lost in our alpine areas. They are experienced bushwalkers, back country and cross-country skiers and mountaineers who have had specialist search and rescue training. We feel very lucky to have BNSC SAR Volunteers marshalling the CONQUESTATHON course for you on event day.

This is why mandatory gear is so important.

The mountains love to be diverse and unpredictable.

This was last weeks run along Mt Feathertop (the 2nd highest mountain in VIC) went from a refreshing summer temp of 20°* to getting to the summit and being whipped around by strong freezing winds and fog with a temp of 5°. For then the clouds to clear and the sun to warm us back up again. All this in under 6hrs of being on the 1 mountain. Lucky us we managed to just beat the torrential rain that happened an hour after we finished.

These mountains are not to be messed around with.
Respect the mountain,
respect the rules,
and you’re going to have a great day.

Had some questions on the mandatory gear. Yes, the gear listed below is absolutely required at registration, even if the weather is forecast to be clear. Weather at the summit is always different to the valley below.

Our event aims to help everyone understand the significance of being prepared when going hiking/running at anytime, especially in an alpine environment. Keep yourself safe and prepared, especially when extra medical assistance is often hours away if you come into some misfortune.

@followersMandatory Equipment including Food and Water:
- Checking of equipment at registration will occur and we want everyone who registers to be able to participate -

You will not be permitted to participate in the event if you do not have the mandatory equipment at registration.

This is for your own safety and all event volunteers, but more importantly, taking responsibility for yourself every time you go hiking/running for when you might be caught out longer than expected.

The weather conditions vary greatly in alpine environments, especially between what is being experienced at Mountain Creek Campground and Mount Bogong Summit. Weather can change within minutes at higher altitudes.

Now is also a great time to check that you have adequate and up to date Ambulance Membership.
