21Km Australian Birkbeiner

21Km Australian Birkbeiner

If you’re a skier with a passion for the sport and have a reasonable fitness level, the 21km Birkebeiner is the event for you.  Warm up with a lap of Sun Valley then head out over the Dam Wall into the Alpine National Park and the challenge of the Paralyser uphill. Enjoy the views to Mt Bogong and Rocky Valley Lake as you cruise across the top of Heathy Spur and finish up with the thrilling descent of the Bladerunner, back over the Dam Wall and on to the finish line where you can mingle with other skiers and enjoy the after race vibe in the Falls Creek Nordic Bowl.

21Km Australian Birkebeiner

The 21km Australian Birkebeiner starts and finishes in the Falls Creek Nordic Bowl  and includes the Sun Valley loop followed by the anti-clockwise Heathy Spur loop. There will be a single cut-off at the intersection of the Two Pauls Track and the Paralyser (approx 12km point).

For the safety of competitors and volunteers, no skier will be allowed to continue up the Paralyser after 12.20 pm.
Any changes to the cut-off times and locations will be announced.

NOTE: The course is subject to change due to prevailing snow and weather conditions. Any changes to the course will be posted in Windy Corner Day Shelter, at the Hoppet Shop in Mt Beauty and on social media.

Ski Hire for Overseas Skiers

Ski hire information for international visitors.

It is better if you can bring your own equipment. However, there are a couple of possibilities for hiring skis. As Hoppet time is very busy, you should book them before you come to Australia to be sure of not missing out.

There are two main ski hire shops that have good quality cross country ski equipment.

1. Falls Creek Cross Country, Situated at the start of the ski trails, Windy Corner Car Park, Falls Creek. They have a vast selection of skating skis and boot-binding systems.
