Report by Bruce Wharrie
(Australian Cross Country News, Autumn
1999)
The NCIS (National Coach & Instructor Scheme) is currently merging with APSI (Australian Professional Snowsports Instructors). In August 1998, the financial membership of the NCIS voted for the merge. The issues for the merge included:
- a need to become part of an internationally recognised ski instructor organisation with ISIA (International Ski Instructors Association)
- a need to be covered by insurance (incorrectly assumed coverage from Skiing Australia)
The administration previously undertaken by the NCIS National Co-ordinator will be performed by the APSI through Sportswise. All course bookings and payments will be made through the Sportswise office.
Instructor levels are proposed to be changed to be in line with APSI. The proposed levels are:
- NCIS Assistant Instructor = APSI Nordic Level 1
- NCIS Instructor 1 = APSI Nordic Level 2
- NCIS Instructor 2 = APSI Nordic Level 3
These levels will also bring us more in line with the PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) Levels 1,2 & 3
Due to a decline in nordic ski instructor applicants, courses for the 1999 ski season have been streamlined. The following course dates are provisional only.
