FIS point calculation

As taken from the 97/98 FIS rule book

Calculation of points:

P = Race Points To = Time of the winner in seconds Tx = Time of competitor x in seconds F = The special fudge factor

P = (Tx/To - 1) * F

For both classic and skating races, F = 600

FIS points = race points + race penalty

Calculation of penalties:

• Take the FIS points of the top 5 skiers in the race.
• Any competitors in the top 5 without FIS points will receive 160 points for the purpose of the calculation.
• Eliminate the best and worst points. Divide the remaining three values by 3.75. This is the calculated race penalty.
• If the calculated penalty is more than the minimum penalty, the calculated penalty will be applied to the race.
• If the calculated penalty is less than the minimum penalty, the minimum penalty will be applied to the race.
• For Junior World Championships, a fixed penalty of 35 points will be used.

  Minimum Penalties

  Minimum penalties will be applied for the following categoriess:

  • Olympic Games, World Championship and World Cup - 0
  • Continental Cup and FIS competitions - 15
  • FIS junior competitions - 35

  Maximum Penalties

  Maximum penalties will be applied for the following categories:

  • Continental Cup - 75
  • FIS competitions - 128

  Additional note from Competition rules:

  At least 5 competitors have to be classified. ( I think this means have FIS points)
