(Australian Cross Country News, Autumn 1999)
SAXC is in the process of negotiating with the Australian Sports Commission for financial assistance for a program to assist in developing elite cross country skiers in Australia. To be effective the program will require the support of a group of team coaches and managers. While the program has yet to be finalised, the Committee is hoping to appoint suitably qualified people to the following eight positions or in combinations:
Senior
Junior
Those appointed will be responsible for the year round development and operation of programs with the explicit purpose of increasing the number and performance of elite cross country skiers. While the national coaches will work in consultation with the coaches responsible for individual skiers, those skiers and coaches will be required to work within guidelines and performance criteria set by the national coaches. It is hoped that the national coaches and managers will accompany teams overseas in 1999/2000 to North America and Europe.
The initial appointments are expected to be for about 12 months (until 30 June 2000), with the possibility of reappointment. It is expected that limited remuneration will be available for the National Team Coach and Manager, it is hoped that reimbursement of costs will be available for other positions.
